Flu Season 2023-2024

The flu season is almost upon us, officially starting on 1st September. Australia has just had a really bad flu season with increased outbreaks and mortality rates and this is sometimes an indicator that the UK season will be bad too.  It is therefore more important than ever to get your flu jab at the earliest possible opportunity.

Healthy patients aged 50-64 can now book for the annual influenza vaccination. If you are aged between 50-64 and haven't already received a flu vaccination, you can book an appointment with us by telephoning the surgery. Our flu clinics have proved to be extremely efficient and safe. It really helps if you wear a short-sleeved top under your outerwear so you are ready for the clinician.  

Who is eligible for a free annual NHS Flu Vaccination?

The flu vaccine is routinely given (free of charge) on the NHS to:

• adults 65 and over
• people with certain medical conditions (including children in at-risk groups from 6 months of age)
• pregnant women
• children aged 2,3 and 4 on 31 August 2020
• children in primary school
• frontline health or social care workers
• There are three different drugs available for flu vaccinations this year.18-64 years old – Quadrivalent, Over 65 years old – Fluad, Under 18 - nasal spray
